Always on the lookout for different cars than the ones I usually see back home, I made good use of my time during a vacation in Porto, Portugal. My local friends, Filipe and Miguel, took me for a ride to an area packed with dealerships and garages – the perfect setting to boost our chances of spotting something special.
There was a Porsche dealership in the area (@centroporscheporto), but sadly, it was Sunday and everything was closed. So, we were left with some quality window shopping. Still, there it was: a brand new, absolutely stunning Porsche 911 sitting inside.
Now, as much as I’m a fan of supercars, my eyes aren’t exactly trained to instantly recognize high-end versions like this one – not the way I can with another, more humble cars, anyway. I mean, I’d get there eventually, but it takes me a minute.
Reading the spec sheet from the outside was impossible, even after we tried zooming in with every phone and camera lens we had.
But this 911 looked… odd. Something didn’t add up.
I was convinced I was staring at a GT3 – it just had that presence – but something was missing: the signature rear wing.
Part of me wanted to pull out my phone and solve the mystery immediately, but my other side just wanted to enjoy the moment. A GT3 isn’t something I get to see every day.
Then, from beside me:
“This is a Touring Pack. It comes with no rear wing.”
Filipe said, casually cracking the case.
And just like that, I was even more confused. Not only did I not know such a version existed, but I left the scene with a silent, genuine question lingering in my head:
Why would anyone want a 911 GT3 without the rear wing?
